Obama picks another with Tax problems

And here is Lael Brainard, Obama’s nominee for undersecretary of the Treasury for international affairs, with past tax problems.  If the people (check another-obama-nominee-with-you-guessed-it-tax-problems and the-tax-code-is-broken and how-much-do-you-pay-in-taxes for other entries) running the Treasury (that is the department that is in charge of the Internal Revenue Service, IRS) can not do their own taxes competently, there can only be one of three conclusions.

1. The tax code is too complex for anyone to comply with and the tax code needs to be abolished and something less complex enacted, or
2. They are idiots and incompetent for the jobs that they have and should not be in those positions, or
3. They are liars, cheats, and immoral and should not be in those positions.

I will let you choose your own conclusion, but I would like to hear what you think in the comments.

Call me Skeptical

Let’s say that the House Health Bill that has passed is GREAT for America.  And let’s say that the estimate that has been made is perfect and that is what the Bill WILL cost.  Hoorah!!!!!  End of story!!  Congratulations are due to the Democrats and LONE Republican that voted FOR the Bill.

What if…??????

What if they are WRONG?  I know, I know, congress has NEVER been wrong in the past, but…..What if???

Here is another solution, as opposed to the one I wrote here.  Put an Amendment in the Bill that states:

IF the cost is greater than the accepted estimate, then the money to pay the excess cost first comes from the Representatives and Senators that voted FOR the Bill.  This can come from their salary, savings, investments, or estates, whether or not they are still in those positions.  NO money, above the accepted estimate, will come from any place other than the ones who voted FOR the Bill until they, or their estates, have $0 in assets.  Any money that they have donated or given away is also subject to seizure, this includes spouses money, heirs money, charity, loan payments, or political activities.

Obama gives Karzai Corruption Ultimatum

This article has me thinking about irony and a lack of character at the highest levels of government.

How can Obama, with a straight face, tell another leader to take care of the corruption in their government, when HE, “the anointed ONE”, cannot take care of the corruption in his own, including himself??

If you have not been paying attention, search ACORN, SEIU, Rangel, Dodd, Frank, Geithner, ethics investigation.  There are many more, but this should be a good start.

Health Care Reform Bill/Obamacare

If you have read any of the entries that I have done concerning the Health Care Reform Bills that have been passed around our government, like love notes in first grade (don’t let the teacher voters see), then you know how I feel about them.  This entry is a call to OUR representatives and senators who will vote on them.

Lets add an amendment to whatever bill (Pelosi, or Reid, or Baucus, or Obama favorite) gets voted on to set a time limit/cost limit.  If the bill is “scored”, by the CBO, to ONLY cost $800 BILLION (or $1 TRILLION, or $1.2 TRILLION, or whatever the number) then if the cost reaches that number BEFORE the time, say ten years, THEN the bill/law will EXPIRE.  If the “score” turns out to be high (I am extremely SKEPTICAL) then the bill/law will continue.

“They can’t do that”, you say!!!  I say that they CAN do this.

Think about the latest Bush TAX CUTS!!!!  They will expire at the end of this year, without OUR represenatives or senators doing anything.  Hey wait, that is what they are doing now!!!   NOTHING!!!!

Lets put a “phase out” on this legislation of five years.  If it works the American people/voters will have no problem reinstating it.

Kindle 2

I have been reading reviews of the new Kindle 2.

At first I wasn’t sure if I would want one, my friends have convinced me that I need one.  I was able to borrow one for a night and after using it I can see how I would never be without it.  It is very easy to download books and it has plenty of storage.  It is very light and easy to operate.

I wish that it had two things.

    1.  A memory card slot – I think this would make transfering your own documents onto and off of the Kindle much better and secure.

    2. I would like to have the screen able to light up (dimly, or adjustable) – I would like to read in bed without disturbing my wife.  I am considering buying the clip on light, but for the cost of the device this should have been included.  A clip on light is just not elegant.

 I also wish that I could try the new Sony reader so that I could compare them.

Unintended Consequences…

Let’s assume for the moment that President Obama and the current Democrat led circus get their wish and pass the National Health Care fiasco. EVERYONE will be able to go to the doctor and all of the ills will be cured…..for a “reasonable cost”. Whew, everything is perfect now.

Only to get to the “reasonable cost”, the government is setting price controls on Doctors, Hospitals, Pharmaceuticals, etc.  Do you think that these groups will LOBBY the people that make those decisions??  You know, kinda like the Pharmaceutical companies are planning on spending $180 MILLION just for advertising FOR the National Health Care plan currently proposed.  They will try and convince whoever is making the decisions about “reasonable cost” that their “costs” are more “reasonable than another groups “costs”.

Pretty soon, the government is going to “CAP” doctor pay.  Think they can’t??  Ask the banks or wall street firms or car manufacturers or insurance companies that were just told what they could pay someone.  Or just ask the Pay CZAR.  OK, so what if they “CAP” doctors pay?? you say.

I see ALL of the best doctors moving their practice OFFSHORE.  Do you think that these doctors, who have plenty of money, won’t move, to say….Bermuda (or someplace similar), to set up a practice for the people that can afford the best care?  The weather is great, there are no income taxes, costs are much less, and they would not have to deal with the government of the USA!!!!  The rich will STILL go to them for the BEST care and might complain about the cost.  Then again they might not complain.

I will not blame the doctors that discover offshoring.  If any doctor reading this needs help moving, please, send a comment.  I’m sure we can work something out.

National Health Care

If you support the current (Democrats) governments push for a National Health Care system, will you please DEMAND one (1) thing??

DEMAND that ALL politicians, from the time this passes, can ONLY use the public option!!!!  What say you Chris Dodd???

Just like we should DEMAND that ALL politicians kids attend PUBLIC school!!!!  What say you, OBAMA???  Oh I forgot the Washington D.C. school system is NOT good enough for your girls.

P.S. In case you were unaware, Chris Dodd is a Democrat Senator that was just diagnosed with Cancer.  Let us all hope for a speedy successful recovery in the currently BEST medical system in the WORLD.  But should he truly believe that a public system will be better, let him be the first to sign up, or he could go to Canada or England and try theirs for a test.

Cost of Government Day

This year (2009) is the LATEST cost of Government day EVER. It occurs on August 12th.  It beats the previous longest year by 23 days.  That is MORE than 3 weeks, that every American (you know, those of us who work) had to work, to PAY for the Government.

How does that make you feel???

Do not worry, the rest of the year you can work for yourself and your family.  The Government will not be back UNTIL the New Year.

P.S.  This date does NOT include any of the costs of Cap and Trade and it does NOT include any of the costs for National Health Care!!!!

National Health Care

I have a question for ANYONE that feels that the “Government” should be invoved in Health Care in this country. 

I will ask it in a moment, but first I want to clarify some things.  Currently, the Obama administration, the Democrats in congress and the Democrats in the Senate are telling us that the public is clamoring for a solution, and that their solution (National Health Care) is the ONLY way to solve the problem.  They are ignoring the polls where some 80% of the public is happy with their coverage, or the FACT that the United States has the BEST medical care in the WORLD.

I am NOT saying that the system should not be improved.  I feel that there is too much inefficiency and costs are out of control.  But, I also feel that the involvement of the government WILL make the system worse and COST way too much.  Probably more than the $1 Trillion that has been thrown around.  If someone can show me ONE government program that has not gone over budget, I WILL show many that have.  For example, Social Security (projected to bankrupt in my lifetime), Medicare (I have NEVER heard anyone complain about this program…NOT), Medicaid (I have NEVER heard anyone complain about this program…NOT) and how about Cash-for-Clunkers (that budget, from the administration, did NOT last two weeks), there are many others.  So, now WE are supposed to trust them on this one.  I am SORRY, I cannot.

The question……

If the National Health Care system gets enacted, are you going to like the National Health Care system when Republicans get to make the decisions about coverage???

Please do not believe that the Democrats will forever run the White House, Congress, and the Senate.  And do not think that the coverages will NOT change with each change in party.  Let me make some observations.  Abortions – depends who makes the decision (Pro-life or Pro-choice).  Stem Cell therapies – depends who makes the decision (It was only 7 months ago that these were frowned upon).  Cancer treatments – maybe the patient does not have a good probability of survival, why spend the money?  I do not want a bureaucrat making those decisions for anyone in MY family!!

Will Chris Dodd (just diagnosed with Prostate Cancer) let ME decide what treatment he should get??  I will BET anyone, any amount of money that he will NOT.  I do not want HIM to make that decision for ME, or anyone in my family, either!!!!
